Transporting your goods by rail is an active contribution to climate protection. With DB Cargo Eurasia, you can shift transport on the Eurasian corridor from road to rail. A single goods train replaces up to 52 lorries and thus not only relieves the road network, but also significantly reduces environmental pollution through lower emissions.

Deutsche Bahn will be climate-neutral by 2040 and has committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions across the entire value chain to net zero by 2040.  We are therefore converting our DB traction current to 100 per cent green electricity by 2038.

Climate+Climate+ is the right way to transport your goods in an even more climate-friendly way. We offer you the most sustainable transport solution based on your requirements. We prioritise the avoidance of emissions through the use of 100% green electricity or alternative fuels. We offset the remaining emissions through climate protection projects in accordance with the VCS + Social Carbon/CCBS or Gold Standard. This makes us your reliable partner for sustainable and environmentally friendly transport.

When you book Climate+, you will receive a transparent Climate+ certificate showing the CO₂e emissions you have avoided or offset.

Use of 100% green electricity:

With 100% green electricity, you can travel CO2e-neutral* on all electrified routes in Germany and other countries. We determine the exact energy requirements of your transport operations using the independent EcoTransIT World tool and purchase the corresponding amount of green electricity from renewable energy sources. In Germany, DB Cargo has the use of green electricity audited by TÜV Süd We certify the CO2e-savings realised with a certificate. The savings can be added to your carbon footprint.

Use of biofuel:

DB Cargo already provides around 95 per cent of its transport services electrically. With Climate+, we are now also enabling you to save a lot of CO2e on non-electrified routes. We use the biofuel HVO (‘Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils’) for diesel-powered rail routes within Germany. This reduces your greenhouse gas emissions by around 90% compared to conventional diesel. We also offset the remaining emissions.   
 We only use HVO from organic residues and waste materials. No additional arable land is used for production that could compete with food and animal feed production, and the HVO used is free from palm oil.

Investment in climate protection projects:

As part of Climate+, we offset emissions that are generated during transport - for example, through pre- or on-carriage by lorry. The promotion of climate protection projects thus complements the use of green electricity and biofuel. Firstly, we calculate the total CO2e-emissions of the supply chain. You then decide to what extent you want to offset these emissions. In order to achieve our climate protection targets, DB Cargo invests in high-quality compensation certificates (VERs and selected CERs) from projects certified according to strict standards such as VCS + Social Carbon/CCBS or Gold Standard together with our partner 'DB Energie'. The projects promote the expansion of renewable energies and thus contribute to the reduction of CO2e-emissions. Sustainable development in the project regions is also strengthened through technology transfer and the establishment of local economic structures.
